About Me

Hello and welcome. My name is Katelyn Brockmiller I am a Registered Dietitian living in Hampton Roads, Virginia. My philosophy for nutrition is focusing on simple steps to make major changes. I follow that into my daily exercise routine. I have 10+ years of experience in the wellness and nutrition field. My career started back in college when I started to teach group exercise classes at the campus gym at Bridgewater College. From there I have taught at several gyms and even managed a wellness floor. Currently I have been a practicing Register Dietitian locally for almost 3 years.
Why Dietetics
Growing up my mom focused a lot on nutrition. She always wanted my dad and I to make healthy choices, most of the time we didn’t. She loved cooking and taught me a lot of what I know in the kitchen. Unfortunately, my mom was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer that metastasized to her brain. She lost her fight in October of 2005, when I was 14 years old. This is when my passion for nutrition and healthy living began. I started to exercise and changed my eating habits to reflect what I thought was healthy.
My story
Also, in high school I started to noticed a lot of GI issues. I started to food journal to pinpoint what was causing all my symptoms. At the time I thought I was just lactose intolerant. I began to live a dairy free lifestyle. Fast forward several years when I noticed more symptoms arising. My doctor started me on the Low FODMAP diet to try to find a trigger. Immediately when I cut out gluten my symptoms began to slowly go away. I further asked my doctor to run tests to find out if I had Celiac Disease. Guess what…they were all positive…I had Celiac Disease. When I found out that I had Celiac Disease my whole life changed. I felt like my life was upside down. I want to help you to not only feel better, but begin to love food again. Let me help you navigate a healthy lifestyle.
My Lifestyle Philosophy
Throughout my academic and professional career I have focused on treating the whole person. I am passionate about focusing on self-love/care, mindful eating, focusing away from the diet culture, and more on a healthy lifestyle through nutrition & exercise while enjoying a gluten free lifestyle.I want to help you do this in a simple way that is easily able to be applied to your lifestyle.
Who am I outside of Dietetics
When I am not at work you can find me in Calia By Carrie with my dog Duke on an adventure somewhere around Hampton Roads. My dog Duke is a 35 pound Goldendoodle. You might have seen him on the Today Show Instagram page, Bosu Ball Instagram page, Duke Students Instagram page or somewhere else on Instagram. He is pretty cute. Check him out at @bluedevilgoldendoole_duke on Instagram. I am also, married to an amazing guy named Blake. I am usually giving him an idea for another project around the house like our massive dining room table that he built out of walnut. I also, enjoy a good adventure to a local restaurant or cidery.
